The Indigenous Chesapeake
Explore the material culture and historical lifeways of the Tidewater Algonquians during this daylong special event. Historical interpreters examine the Powhatan peoples' seventeenth-century politics and early relationships with the colonists of James Fort. Female interpreters will demonstrate Algonquian cooking and foodways, and discuss the women's roles in Powhatan society. Throughout the day, interpreters will provide demonstrations and discussions of tool making and weaponry, as well as describe uses of flora and fauna.
