Colonial Folk Art Studio & Gallery is bringing a retrospective of famed artist Agnes "Aggie" Robertson (1911-2001) to Williamsburg.

As part of Art Escape Weekend, the Gallery will present "The Mind of Aggie Robertson: A Retrospective." The event will begin with an invitation-only preview reception on Friday, May 27, followed by a free, open-to-the-public showing on May 28-29. All show events are in the gallery's 110 Bacon Ave. location.

Born in East Aurora, N.Y., Robertson didn't begin painting until the late 1950s when she quickly developed a unique style that caught the attention of viewers and critics, alike. Her dreamlike painting style holds a timeless characteristic that allows a viewer to become transfixed on the nature of the painting and an inner meaning.

Her work is instantly recognizable. Her trance like paintings show influences of Romantic Expressionism and Abstract Expressionism with a touch of European Surrealism.
