Lydia Brandt will discuss America's obsession with the first president's iconic home as a symbol for the nation as seen in advertising, prints, paintings and popular literature for over 200 years.  Mount Vernon, much like Colonial Williamsburg, has remained strikingly relevant to many competing conceptions of our country's historical and architectural identity.
