The Fifes & Drums of York Town

Reminiscent of 18th century musicians who served the Continental Army in Yorktown, this group of young fifers and drummers march and perform throughout Historic Yorktown. Members wear Regimental uniforms and colors, and can be seen parading and heard playing in frequent public appearances.

Yorktown Battlefield

Administered by the National Park Service, the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center features an orientation film, museum exhibits, and bookstore.  Explore the fields, earthworks, and historic buildings where American independence was won.  Driving tours of the battlefield include siege lines and encampment areas.  Ranger led tours of the battlefield and historic town leave from the visitor center daily, and Junior Ranger Programs are available for younger visitors.

Yorktown Waterfront

Located in historic Yorktown, this 2-acre beachfront provides opportunities for boating, swimming, walking, kayaking, biking and fishing. A fishing pier and 10-acre grass picnic area are also available. A public restroom/shower facility is located next to the Dock Master’s office and opened April through October.  A mile-long pedestrian Riverwalk is the perfect place for casual strolling or serious power walking. Enjoy the two-acre beach where you can sunbathe, swim, gather shells and watch the boats pass by.

Schooners Alliance and Serenity

Step back into history when you join the crew of the Yorktown Schooners Alliance and Serenity. Lend a hand at setting sail, take the helm and steer the ship, or look for dolphins and osprey as you glide along the shores of the York River. Among the popular pirate cruises you will watch as the kids raise the sails, steer the schooner, and learn to tie knots.

Yorktown – Riverwalk Landing

A mile-long pedestrian walkway on the York River links Yorktown Battlefield and Yorktown Victory Center. Specialty shops designed in the spirit of Colonial architecture offer jewelry, clothing, patriotic items, art, wine, home decor and more. Take time to play on the beach. Savor waterfront dining in unique restaurants. Listen and dance to a variety of music in a performance venue right on the river. Enjoy a guided Segway adventure, or rent a bike, kayak or paddleboard and explore on your own.

Historic Jamestowne 2

Historic Jamestowne is the site of the original James Fort that was established by English settlers on the banks of the James River in 1607. Archaeological excavations to rediscover the lost footprint of the fort began in 1994. In 20 years of research, the Jamestown Rediscovery Project’s team has rewritten the story of Jamestown’s triumphs and tragedies through the discovery of almost two million artifacts.
