Williamsburg Gardens
As part of Historic Garden Week, the Williamsburg Garden Club will host "Gardens and the Civil War" themed tours on Tuesday, April 24, including Colonial Williamsburg's Historic Area and the campus of the College of William and Mary. The Williamsburg Garden Club Homes, Gardens and Civil War History Tour, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, are $25 in advance, $30 on day of tour. Colonial Williamsburg holds its 66th Annual Garden Symposium, "Beautiful Gardens: Bountiful Options," on Sunday and Monday, April 15-16, featuring guest speakers and Colonial Williamsburg landscape staff offering tips and ideas to help you make the best use of your garden time and space. Colonial Williamsburg also offers a number of spring garden programs to showcase its flower and boxwood gardens.
Springtime is planting time in fields and gardens at Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center, where crops, vegetables and herbs - types grown in the 17th and 18th centuries - are cultivated. Corn, tobacco, and dozens of varieties of vegetables and herbs are planted in the early spring, and visitors of all ages can assist in turning earth, watering and weeding.
