Jolly's Mill Pond
Jolly's Mill Pond is "Where history meets the outdoors". Our property is full of historic discoveries, wetlands conservation and sustainable farming.
Organic Farming: For the first time in nearly 100 years, organic farming is coming back to Jolly's Mill Pond...
History: Around 1820, a group of African-American slaves carved earth from a steep hillside by hand, transported and packed the earth to form an 1/8-mile-long dam. This dam formed Jolly's Mill Pond (or Jolly Pond to the locals) a 50-acre historic pond that powered a gristmill for 100 years. Located minutes away from Freedom Park, one of the first free Black settlements in America, Jolly's Mill Pond was also home for slave, free and Black farmers in its history.
