Explore the multicultural heritage of southern cooking during a special afternoon culinary event on Saturday, April 28, featuring cooking and conversation with Michael W. Twitty, African American and Jewish culinary historian and author. The program begins at 2 p.m. in the museum's re-created Revolution-era farm.

Twitty, a food writer from the Washington, D.C., area, is author of "The Cooking Gene," tracing his ancestry from Africa to America and from slavery to freedom. Released by HarperCollins in 2017, the book is a finalist for The Kirkus Prize, a literary award. He also is a nominee for the 2018 James Beard Award for writing. Twitty will sign copies of his book following the presentation, and visitors are encouraged to purchase them in the museum gift shop in advance of the afternoon event.

Admission to the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown is $15.00 for adults, $7.50 for ages 6-12, and free for children under 6. Parking is free.
