Come and learn during the annual shearing of nearly 90 alpacas at Fox Wire Farm in Toano by taking a shearing tour! This annual event helps prepare the alpacas for the summer months by shedding their wool. Fun fact: alpaca wool is 10 times warmer than sheep's wool. Can you imagine having that on during the summer months?

Shearing Day is an exciting and fun-filled day during which we run shearing tours to the farm so individuals can see firsthand how shearing is done and learn about our alpacas and their fiber.  The 2018 shearing was such a success that it made the news! We're really looking forward to another great experience for all!

The shearers will be coming in from New Zealand to help with this event again this year and there will be shearing tours (as we did last year) for the local community.

You must RSVP to attend this event by calling 757-707-5052. There will be one-hour shearing tours and this year we have added two, three-hour shearing tour/tractor-pulled hayride to the tour schedule for those individuals who would like to spend additional time touring the farm and visiting with the other animals.

All tours begin and end at the Fox Wire Farm Boutique which is located at 8105 Richmond Road, Suite 201, Toano, VA 23168. Cash or check is preferred payment. We can accept all major credit cards; however, a $0.50 convenience fee is applied per person to cover credit and debit card merchant fees.

Departure times are 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. Reservations are not required, but strongly recommended!

The three-hour shearing tour will be at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Cost is $35/per person age 5 and up. This very special tour has limited seating for 15 people per tour to provide a fun-filled, intimate opportunity for viewing the Shearing and then experiencing a more comprehensive tour of the farm. These tours depart promptly from the designated parking area. Reservations and pre-payment are required for this tour prior to the day of the tour.  Participants will be given a gate pass/ID badge so they can drive onto the farm to park and meet up with their tour guide at the reserved time in the designated parking area.

Fox Wire Farm (FWF) is made up of approximately 200 acres of farmland, pastureland, woods, creeks and is the home to some of the happiest alpacas around. The farm is situated on its own peninsula at the end of a mile long private road. FWF is proud to claim the highest elevation in the entire county at just over 100' above sea level.
