Jamestown Island and the surrounding ecosystem is an incredibly diverse network of tidal creeks and marshes divided by wooded upland ridges. Jamestown is a nationally significant historic site which attracts visitors from around the globe to learn about the 1st permanent English settlement. In 1607, three ships arrived in the Chesapeake Bay to establish a successful English colony under the join venture company, the Virginia Company. Come learn about what life was like over 400 years ago as we paddle along the scenic Powhatan Creek, a James River tributary that supported life for English settlers and American Indians. The tour is led by Carolyn Black, interpretation and partnership associate for the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail. We will meet at 9:30 and after a brief basics of paddle boarding intro we will head out onto the water. We will end our tour at the J.C.C. Marina for a bite to eat from a local food truck and a nice cold drink from Billsburg Brewery.
