Please join us at The Mariners' Museum for a film that has been called "one of the best sailing documentaries ever made." Red Dot on the Ocean tells the story of Matt Rutherford, a sailor unlike any other. As a child, raised in an obscure cult, Matt Rutherford was labeled a "youth-at-risk." At 17, he found himself in a jail cell, reflecting on where his life was headed, and decided to turn things around. He bought a boat, learned to sail, and four years later, he had crossed the Atlantic, sailing solo to Europe and Africa. That voyage, however, was just a prelude to his greatest challenge: to become the first solo sailor to cross the Northwest Passage and circumnavigate the Americas. Red Dot on the Ocean is a story about sailing, but also a story about inspiration, perseverance, and the human capacity to do what seems impossible.

This event is a special production of the Mariners' Museum and FATHOM, a Christopher Newport University program.
