During the height of the Civil War Uniontown or Slabtown was created on the Yorktown Battlefield.  Yorktown was the other Freedom Fortress for 12,000 enslaved people seeking freedom.  The town began in 1863 and ended in 1976. It provided shelter, education, and spiritual guidance to thousands of African American citizens. We will explore the streets and empty lots of Slabtown and share photographs of the once thriving community.
