Throughout 2019 the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation commemorates 40 years of comprehensive African-American historical interpretation, and at 5:30 p.m. July 5 invites the community to the Hennage Auditorium at the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg for a special free event that showcases the craft and examines its role in today’s society. “African American Interpretation: Present” features presentations by Colonial Williamsburg historical interpreters Adam Canaday, Janice Canaday, Deirdre Jones, Hope Wright and Willie Wright along with Journeyman Silversmith Preston Jones, plus a discussion featuring interpreters Erikka Clarke, Edwin Cooke, Dara King and Linwood Tyson. The “African American Interpretation” series is possible thanks to a generous grant from the Ford Foundation.
