Have ball..will travel.  It's the new mantra for young athletes — and their families. A weekend here, and a weekend there is bonding on and off the field. There are not many areas better than Greater Williamsburg to put the welcome mat out for your ever growing international sports superstar,  whether be it on the pitch, the court, the softball field, running trail and more!

The area is the equivalent of a soccer hat trick, a softball grand slam, or a basketball buzzer-beater. It boasts a central location along the Atlantic Coast. It offers world-class facilities like the Warhill Sports Complex with 14 soccer pitches, eight baseball fields, and three basketball courts; the tennis courts of Kingsmill Resort; and the McReynolds Athletic Complex in York County with four soccer fields, five youth baseball fields, one adult softball field, and one adult baseball field. Add to that all the amenities a family or team could imagine and that's why Greater Williamsburg hosts regional and national tournaments throughout the year!

The area has a wide variety of lodging options, from historic lodges and B&Bs to upscale resorts. It features fun downtime choices for a family or a team like Busch Gardens, Great Wolf Lodge, Jamestown Settlement, Colonial Williamsburg, and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, which make the area perfect for hosting regional and national tournaments. And you can grab sideline takeout from a coffee shop or sandwich shop or settle in for a family meal at what has become one of the state's stellar culinary destinations.

Consider the range of some of the sports events that will make Greater Williamsburg home this year:

The United States Tennis Association's Junior National Boys 16 and under tournament hits the courts at Kingsmill Resort from July 8 to July 10.

The state's premier travel soccer tournament holds games at the Warhill Complex from Aug. 31 through Sept. 3. The Virginia Cup is the largest Labor Day tournament in the state and one that teams point towards all year long.

Soccer returns on Nov. 16 and 17 with the Virginia Legacy Champions Shootout at the Warhill Complex for a tournament featuring teams ages 10 to 19.

Runners, bikers, and swimmers come to the area on Sept. 8 and 9 for the Patriot's Triathlon Festival at Jamestown Event Beach Park. The swim takes place at Jamestown beach. The bike course is flat, fast, and parallels the Cap-Cap bike trail along Rt. 5. The run course winds through historic farmland and forest on a combination of bike paths and jogging trails.
