Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM)

In anticipation of an active hurricane season and VDEM changing its approach to congregate shelters due to COVID-19, they contacted VTC to assist in identifying lodging partners that may be interested in being listed as potential storm shelter sites. Lodging properties interested in participating should complete a survey developed by the VDEM here.

COVIDWISE Mobile App

To help lead the way in the fight against COVID-19, the Virginia Department of Health has launched COVIDWISE, an official COVID-19 exposure notification mobile app. Virginia is the first state in the United States to deploy an exposure notification app using the Apple/Google Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) framework. After downloading the app, individuals can use their phone in the fight against COVID-19, without compromising privacy or personal information. COVIDWISE uses BLE technology to quickly notify users who have likely been exposed so they can reduce the risk of exposure to others and help Virginia stop the spread. Learn more.

WanderLove Campaign

VTC has created a new integrated campaign, WanderLove, that will leverage Virginia’s many road trip adventures to inspire travel throughout the state this summer and fall. These road trips will also highlight outdoor recreation, hidden gems, small towns, and Virginia’s unique “roadside attraction” – LOVEworks. Information is forthcoming on VTC’s customizable templates encouraging travelers to embrace their WanderLove and explore Virginia.

LOVE Lives Here Campaign

VTC’s “LOVE Lives Here” initiative brings partners, local businesses, and consumers together to share an uplifting message of love while also inspiring visitation to the Commonwealth when it’s safe to travel again. In an effort to bring people together, while remaining socially distant, the VTC is asking all Virginians and local businesses to create LOVE signs of their own and display them in their windows and on social media. To learn more and spread the LOVE, visit here.

VTC Tourism Partner Listings

In an effort to share up-to-date information on VTC’s blog and social media channels, tourism partners listed on the VTC website are encouraged to update their pages with current information such as takeout and curbside pick-up options and online/virtual opportunities. Sign in for updates or learn more about becoming a partner here.

Reopening Industry Database: Do Not Promote/Promote With Caution

Not all businesses and destinations will be ready to reopen at the same time, and some destinations are already overrun on the weekends.  In an effort to understand and support individual timelines, the VTC created a Google spreadsheet as a place for those attractions and destinations to fill in notes and information regarding the status of reopening. There are two tabs: Do Not Promote and Promote With Caution. To review and update your business information, click here.
