Bringing the Nation Together with
The Great American Birthday Quilt

Celebrating America's 250th Anniversary in the Birthplace of America

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, there is no destination more meaningful to commemorate this milestone than Virginia’s Historic Triangle— Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown.

Known as the Birthplace of America and home to the world’s largest living U.S. history museum, this region is where the nation’s story first took shape. Here, the first permanent English settlement grew roots, the ideals of liberty took form, and the fight for independence was won. Today, visitors can walk the streets where revolutionaries once debated, stand on the battlefield where victory was secured, and trace the journey from colony to country.

Visit Williamsburg is bringing the nation together—one stitch at a time—through the celebration of America250 and Virginia250 with the creation of The Great American Birthday Quilt. This collaborative project invites participants from across the country to craft a lasting tribute to America’s story. Led by Steve Prince, Director of Engagement and Distinguished Artist in Residence at the Muscarelle Museum of Art at The College of William & Mary, in partnership with Visit Williamsburg, the quilt celebrates unity, creativity, and the American spirit.

The completed quilt was unveiled on April 11, 2026 and will be displayed at the Colonial Williamsburg Regional Visitor Center throughout 2026. Measuring 500 feet long and 5 feet wide, the quilt will be exhibited in rotating sections.
