Marketing Intern

Visit Williamsburg is the Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for the historic triangle, dedicated to promoting Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown as a premier travel and tourism destination. We are currently seeking an intern to support our Marketing department with various duties in creative writing, content creation, social media support, and organizational tasks. This opportunity offers valuable industry experience, hands-on involvement in ongoing projects, and the chance to work alongside a passionate team driving tourism in the area.

Job Title: Marketing Intern

Job Type: Internship

Expected hours: 10-20 per week

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with the marketing/pr team to develop compelling talking points for upcoming media interviews
  • Write and edit blog posts for the organization’s website, ensuring alignment with brand voice and messaging
  • Take high-quality photos and videos for use on various social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn)
  • Edit and optimize photos and videos for social media posts, ensuring the content is engaging, visually appealing, and on-brand
  • Maintain and organize the inventory closet for marketing promotional items, ensuring that items are well-stocked, properly labeled, and easily accessible
  • Coordinate distribution of marketing materials and promotional items for events and campaigns
  • Assist in organizing marketing efforts related to university partnerships, student engagement, and campus events.
  • Analyze the competition's marketing efforts and provide suggestions for Visit Williamsburg on tactics to consider in our marketing.
  • Analyze current vendor dashboards for marketing ideas, trends, and suggestions.
  • Provide general administrative support to the marketing team as needed, including updating the internal marketing calendar, assisting with project tracking, taking meeting notes
  • Additional duties determined by the department workload
  • Summer 2025, 10-20 hours per week

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree or recently graduated in Marketing, Communications, Tourism, or a related field
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic understanding of analytics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools is a plus
  • Creative, detail-oriented, and passionate about travel and tourism
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including some weeknights/weekends
  • Must be able to lift 30lbs
  • Must have valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
  • Must be 18 years or older

Sports Sales Intern

We are currently seeking a paid intern to support our Sales team with various duties in supporting business development, client outreach, and marketing initiatives to attract meetings, conventions, and leisure travelers. This opportunity offers valuable industry experience, hands-on involvement in ongoing projects, and the chance to work alongside a passionate team driving tourism in the area.

Job Title: Sports Sales Intern

Job Type: Internship

Expected hours: 10-20 per week

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Provide general administrative support to the business development team as needed
  • Assist with special projects or initiatives assigned by the Sports Sales Manager
  • Assist with events and departmental marketing
  • Maintain and update the CRM system with leads, client interactions, and event details
  • Update the sports lead list with names, titles, and numbers via telephone and email
  • Conduct research involved with generating bid proposals
  • Support the servicing and operational requirements of sports-specific events
  • Contribute to phone coverage as needed
  • Work as event staff, in various roles, during competitions/championships
  • Complete independent projects as assigned by the Sports Sales Manager
  • Additional duties determined by the department workload
  • Summer 2025, 10-20 hours per week

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree or recently graduated in Sports Management, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Strong interest in the sports industry, event planning, and tourism development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with CRM tools a plus
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Detail oriented and proactive in problem-solving
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including some weeknights/weekends
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
  • Must have valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
  • Must be 18 years or older

Learning Outcomes

  • Gain practical experience in sports tourism sales and event coordination
  • Develop skills in client relations, market analysis, and sales strategy
