Historic Jamestowne Bike Trail

Admire serene natural beauty and centuries of history along the 🔺Island Loop Drive at Historic Jamestowne. Also known as the Historic Jamestowne Bike Trail, this 3- or 5-mile loop is a favorite among pedestrians and cyclists alike. (Vehicles are welcome too, but speeds are low.) The wildlife-rich marshlands and forests are a major draw, as are the panoramic views of the legendary James River. Hop off your bike to spot bald eagles soaring overhead or nesting above in the trees. As you cruise the trail, try to imagine the colonists encountering this land hundreds of years ago.  

Powhatan Creek Trail

For an easygoing ride rich in nature and discovery, follow the gentle and mostly flat Powhatan Creek Trail. This 2.05-mile paved path blends peaceful scenery with living history. Cross Powhatan Creek on a stunning 696-foot-long timber bridge, where the sound of rushing water provides a moment of bliss. Along the way, connect to the Greensprings Interpretive Trail and even the Virginia Capital Trail.

Virginia Capital Trail

For a memorable long-distance ride, pedal through more than 400 years of history as you travel between Jamestown and Richmond on the🔺Virginia Capital Trail. Stretching 52 miles along the scenic Route 5 corridor, this trail’s flat terrain provides a smooth ride suitable for any level of cyclist. For an easy day trip, start at the Jamestown trailhead and enjoy a leisurely out-and-back ride with wide James River views, rest stops, and easy access to historic sites along the way.

New Quarter Park

Explore 500+ acres of mature forests, meadows, ravines, and tidal wetlands at New Quarter Park. Race around the thrilling 5.8-mile singletrack loop designed for intermediate riders. Going counterclockwise, keep an eye out during the first mile for three Civil War dugouts, remnants of the Confederate Defensive Line. Maintained by the Eastern Virginia Mountain Bike Association, this trail is perfect for cyclists wanting to experience history and nature while being minutes from historic Williamsburg.

Satisfy your need for speed with over 20 miles of mountain biking trails in 🔺Freedom Park. Challenge yourself on a variety of trails from the beginner-friendly Bunny Loop to technical freeride sections and several other multi-use singletrack trails, all designed and maintained by the Eastern Virginia Mountain Bike Association. Glide through forested paths, along creeks, and across open meadows that immerse you in the park’s beauty. Trails close during wet weather to protect the landscape.

Chickahominy Riverfront Park
